An idea, a mystique

Obscuritas nutrit flammam. Darkness feeds the flame.

Le Geai Informatique is not a web agency. It is the digital workshop of a wider house, founded on a simple exigence: to make well, to serve art and those who pass through.

A branch, a workshop

Le Geai Informatique is the digital branch of Le Geai, a publishing house. What we build in code, in interfaces, in tools, does not serve only the client who commissions it; it sustains a design wider than the engagement, described further below.

We have tools, skills and time. But above all we carry a vision and an empathy for those we accompany, along with a distaste for conventional websites, those large bland windows that all resemble one another. So we offer our own vision of computing.

Our vision

Four exigences run through every one of our works.

I

Minimalist

Each line of code, each pixel, each word must have its reason for being. The superfluous clutters, weighs down, blurs. We set it aside.

II

Secure

Your data and that of your clients is a responsibility, not a merchandise. We build soberly, without needless dependencies, in respect of the GDPR.

III

Turned towards use

A tool only has meaning if it serves someone. We design our works from your real activity, never from an abstract template.

IV

Beautiful

For beauty is not a luxury, it is a condition. We give each work the attention it deserves, in the line of what Dostoevsky wrote: beauty will save the world.

The pact

We work in computing to fund what we carry elsewhere: the publishing house, the printing of our books, the illustrators and artists we remunerate. That is also why our prices stay reasonable, where others inflate theirs.

Becoming our client is not only having a website. It is obtaining a viable tool, designed for you, and at the same time funding art, jobs, and projects of the future at a humane scale.

Those who join the workshop

The founder knew the trial of the unfound internship, of time wasted knocking on the wrong doors. So we regularly welcome interns and, when the setting allows, apprentices. Our aim is to keep them on permanent contracts when the mission ends well.

The setting we offer is designed to allow real work and a humane life at the same time:

  • Mostly remote work, on-site possible when the need arises.
  • No fixed imposed schedule, so long as the work is delivered on time and well done.
  • The possibility of taking holidays, including for interns.
  • Menstrual flexibility: leave taken without consequence on the mission or on rest days.
  • An amicality that prevails over hierarchy, and a fluid working setting.

The horizon

In time, we wish to open a shop kept by the Le Geai house. Our books would be sold there, along with old objects chosen for their aesthetic bearing, and we would open late in the evening to offer a refuge to those who need it. A place where the light stays on.

Le Geai Informatique is not a web shop. It is, to borrow Charles Péguy's word, a mystique: a living idea we try to uphold without letting it fall.

The first conversation is offered

Describe your activity, what you wish to build, what deserves to be reworked. We shall come back with a fair proposal.
